Description of Service
This one-on-one service provides hands-on training in a wide array of clerical work.
General Office Clerk training at a Capabilities office provides hands-on training in office reception duties, receiving and responding to a multi-line phone system, proper phone etiquette, general office practices, and basic computer operation/data entry including the Microsoft Office Suite products and/or Google Suite Products, proper business attire, office machines, basic resume preparation, and electronic filing. Individuals are expected to attend in business attire. The general office skills taught are determined based on the need, referral, and vocational goal of each person. The training is scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm and the hours are accommodated to the person’s needs. The following Capabilities offices are able to provide the training:
- Athens, Circleville, Dayton, Findlay, Fremont, Piqua, Toledo, St. Marys, and Wheelersburg
What does the Service Look Like?
Learning new skills can be difficult without help. During the General Office Clerk service, you receive the guidance and training you need to work in an office setting. The length of time spent on this training is determined by you, your vocational counselor, and your Capabilities Career Consultant. Through this training you can improve your keyboarding skills and speed, learn how to use programs in the Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite, data entry, how to use basic office equipment, and interpersonal skills. This is done in an office environment and provides you with a simulation of several work shifts so you can determine your own physical needs and stamina level. Your Career Consultant develops weekly written goals for you and provides progress reports.

For the Employer: This training ensures qualified candidates are entering the workforce to fill open positions. Capabilities’ combination of hands-on, hard and soft work skill assessments help to connect the dots between people and employers who are looking for clerical staff.
For the Funding Source: This training provides a valuable opportunity for the person to learn and improve upon their skills, ideally resulting in enhanced opportunities when he/she begins the job search process.
