The Capabilities Driving School classroom and office are located at 809 McKinley Rd, St. Marys, OH 45885. The office is open Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Capabilities Driving School Now Offers Ohio BMV Driver Tests

Capabilities is pleased to partner with the Ohio BMV as a third-party class D testing center. Effective January 1st, 2025 the cost for both the maneuverability and on-the-road test is $50. If the student fails and is required to retake either or both portions, another $50 fee will be assessed per attempt. Please note: the driver test cost is separate from the First Time Teen Driver Course.

St Marys Testing Location – 809 McKinley Rd  St Marys, OH 45885

Mondays and Thursdays (except for federal holidays)

  • Mondays: 8:15am – 4:15pm
  • Thursdays: 8:15am – 4:15pm
  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to testing and allow about 20 minutes for the test.
  • You have the option to use a Capabilities vehicle for the test and there is an additional cost of $50 (we accept cash and credit card).

 

 

Marysville Testing Location – 940 London Ave, Suite 1300  Marysville, OH 43040

Tuesdays (except for federal holidays)

  • Tuesdays: 8:15am – 4:15pm
  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to testing and allow about 20 minutes for the test.
  • You have the option to use a Capabilities vehicle for the test and there is an additional cost of $50 (we accept cash and credit card).

 

Sharonville Testing Location – 11260 Chester Road, Suite 140  Sharonville, OH 45246

Wednesdays (except for federal holidays)

  • Wednesdays: 8:15am – 4:15pm
  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to testing and allow about 20 minutes for the test.
  • You have the option to use a Capabilities vehicle for the test and there is an additional cost of $50 (we accept cash and credit card).

Restrictions

  • You must comply with any restrictions listed on your driver’s permit (i.e. corrective lenses, etc.).
  • Capabilities is not able to provide testing for individuals requiring medical clearance or license suspensions. These individuals must have all appropriate paperwork submitted to a BMV exam station prior to testing. 

Required Documents

  • Temporary driver’s permit
  • Any certificate of class completion if required
  • Notarized 24 hour affidavit (if an abbreviated adult course was taken) or 50 hour affidavit (if under 18 or non renewable/non transferable license)

You’ve passed! Now what?

  • Upon passing the test, you must still go to any Ohio BMV location to purchase your official driver license.

Teen Driver’s Education Classroom Schedules

2025 Teen Class Dates

Capabilities Driving School is licensed by the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office and complies with all applicable requirements for Driving Schools in accordance with the Ohio Revised and Administrative Codes.  

New Drivers

This includes the required 24 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of on the road driving and can be completed in the following ways:

  • Option #1: This option is available to students residing in Allen, Auglaize, Mercer, and Shelby counties and includes a required 24 hours of in-person classroom instruction, and also includes the required eight hours of behind-the-wheel instruction – the total cost is $450.
    (This in-classroom option is only available to 15½ year olds through 18-year-olds)
    Classes are held at our location at 809 McKinley Rd, St. Marys, OH 45885.
  • Option #2: This option is available for students aged 15½ – 20 and includes 24 hours of self-paced ONLINE classroom instruction through our third-party partner Costech – click here to register and see the cost. In addition, the student must complete the required eight hours of behind-the-wheel instruction through a driver’s education provider. A list of all the driving schools in Ohio can be found here. The student must contact an Ohio driving school and register for the behind-the-wheel, separate from the ONLINE instruction.
  • Option #3: Eight hours of behind-the-wheel instruction only. This option is available for students who have completed their 24-hour instruction through another driver’s education provider. Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course

In-car driving instruction with instructor holding up his hand to signal for the driver to stop or slow downThis course assists adult drivers with satisfying the state requirement for completing an abbreviated training course when failing to pass either the maneuverability and/or road test on their first attempt. Not applicable for non transferable/non renewable licenses. 

Per the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, starting September 30, 2025, adults aged 21 years and older who have never held a driver’s license before and who have not passed their first attempt at the maneuverability and/or road test are required to take an Abbreviated Adult Training Course. There are various options to complete this course:

Adult Abbreviated 4 hours of ONLINE self-paced instruction through our third-party partner Costech. Click here to register for the ONLINE instruction.

After completing the 4 hours of Adult Abbreviated ONLINE classroom instruction, a person must then drive 4 hours with a licensed instructor or 24 hours with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older, and required to complete the Twenty-Four Hour Affidavit (form BMV 5789)

Non-transferable/Non-renewable Permit Holders

  • Option #1: This option includes 24 hours of self-paced ONLINE classroom instruction through our third-party partner Costech – click here to register and see the cost. In addition, the student must complete the required eight hours of behind-the-wheel instruction through a driver’s education provider. A list of all the driving schools in Ohio can be found here.     (Currently, Capabilities does not provide 8 hours of Behind-the-Wheel instruction for
